Do you FIT IN, or do you BELONG? - An outsider’s approach to Product and People Management, and how all of us can harness this power for positive change and personal success
Product Management is about understanding your users and your industry to build delightful experiences while solving everyday problems. What are the skills necessary to harness this empathy, and what does growing up an immigrant have to do with it? This lecture is a mix of personal stories, the latest studies on diversity in organizations, and how we all stand to benefit from building technology from a place of belonging.
Joice Tae Ozaki, Controlant
Senior Product Manager
Joice was born in Japan, but spent her life growing up in different countries including France, Brazil, and the United States. She has been working in tech for over 20 years, starting her career as a Web Designer, and eventually finding a deep love for UX and Product Management while working at Nickelodeon in Los Angeles, CA. She attributes her success partly for her ability to constantly shift perspectives, and being attuned to people -- a necessity when living in a multi-cultural and multi-lingual environment.
Joice has a BFA from Virginia Commonwealth University and an MFA from the California Institute of the Arts. She is also the 2023 Icelandic Finalist in the Nordic Women in Tech Awards for Innovator of the Year category.
