Quantum-Proof Payments: Bridging the Digital Divide Before Q-Day

Framtíð | Future    06.02.2026    ENG

Quantum computing is moving from theory to impact, and the first place many of us will feel it is in payments. While instant, cross-border, and account-to-account rails explode in volume, our cryptographic foundations face a “harvest-now, decrypt-later” threat. In this talk, we connect these three threads: what quantum risk really means for today’s RSA/ECC-based payment ecosystems, how to build crypto-agility and migrate to post-quantum standards without breaking customer experience, and how to seize the migration window to design more inclusive services for small markets by default. Attendees will leave with a practical playbook: a 12- to 24-month roadmap for PQC pilots in payment flows, a zero-disruption tokenization/key-management approach, and governance guardrails aligned with evolving EU/EEA regulation—all while reducing fraud and widening access.
